Connecting Decatur With Its City Government

The City of Decatur Communications Office connects residents, businesses, visitors, employees, and news media with clear, timely, and accurate information about City government.

The office plans and coordinates communications across City departments, helping the public understand the services, programs, projects, meetings, decisions, and events that affect the Decatur community. This work includes strategic messaging, media relations, news releases, public information campaigns, website content, social media, photography, video production, livestreaming, and InsideDECATUR programming.

The Communications Manager works with the mayor, City Council, department leaders, and community partners to explain complex topics in plain language and provide consistent information across City platforms. The office also helps coordinate public updates during emergencies, major events, service changes, and other situations that may affect residents.

For members of the news media, the Communications Manager serves as the City’s primary point of contact for interview requests, official statements, background information, and assistance identifying the appropriate City representative. Media requests are coordinated with City leadership and departments to provide accurate information as quickly as possible.
