City Council Meeting Agendas and Work Sessions
The Decatur City Council holds two regular meetings each month. The first meeting begins at 6 p.m. on the first Monday of the month, and the second begins at 10 a.m. on the third Monday.
The Council holds an agenda work session at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. These sessions allow council members to review and discuss items expected to appear on an upcoming meeting agenda.
The Council also holds a brief work session 30 minutes before each regular meeting to review the agenda and ask additional questions. The first-Monday work session begins at 5:30 p.m., and the third-Monday work session begins at 9:30 a.m.
If a regular meeting date falls on a legal holiday or during the Alabama League of Municipalities’ annual conference, the meeting automatically moves to the following Monday at the same time.
Meetings and work sessions are held in the Council Chambers on the first floor of City Hall unless the City provides timely notice of another public location. The Council may also hold a special-called meeting when it provides timely notice.
Public Comment
The public has two opportunities to address the Council during each regular meeting:
- The first public comment period is limited to items listed on the meeting agenda.
- A general public comment period is held near the end of the meeting for those who wish to address the Council about other matters.
Anyone wishing to speak during either public comment period must sign up before the meeting. A sign-up sheet will be available at the entrance to the Council Chambers beginning one hour before the meeting. The sheet will be submitted to the Council President five minutes before the meeting begins.
